FOR REAL? Sacked Female NNPC MD Linked To Billions Discovered By EFCC

Sources have revealed that the $50m uncovered in a residential house located at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, by the EFCC belongs to the sacked Managing Director, Operations at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue.

Madam Esther was sacked alongside three top MDs at the NNPC over the ‘missing’ petrol scandal involving Capital Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited owned by businessman, Ifeanyi Ubah.

Recall that it was reported that there was so much money in Esther's house that her cook absconded with cash and jewelry worth $6million. Now more details are coming...

How EFCC recovered $43m, £27,000, N23m in Lagos house

We reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission raided a house in Ikoyi, Lagos, yesterday and recovered about $43m, N23m and £27,000 in cash.

The total cash when converted using the current rate of the Central Bank of Nigeria amounts to N11,661,314,000 (over N11billion).

It was learnt that the recovery was made at a service apartment located at Osborne Towers.

BUSTED! EFCC Discovers $38m, £27,000 and N23m In A Big House In Ikoyi, Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has discovered another large sum of money, this time in a house in the Ikoyi area of Lagos.

According to the EFCC, operatives from its Lagos Zone found the cash during a sting operation.

Specifically, it said the operatives uncovered about $38m, N23m and £27,000 from the apartment. This is like Billions of Naira just locked in a house like that.

Supreme Court Orders Immediate Re-instatement of Sacked Customs Boss, Gusau

The Supreme Court has set aside the compulsory retirement of Comptroller Abdullahi Gusau from the service of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS).

The court, in a unanimous judgment of a five-man panel, ordered the immediate reinstatement of Comptroller Gusau, who was retired on December 21, 2009 by the NCS’ management allegedly on the directive of the Finance Minister.

The senior officer was sacked in 2009 after he exposed some dirty deals.

DSS foils Boko Haram plot to attack UK & US embassies

The Department of State Services (DSS) says it foiled an attempt by the Boko Haram insurgents to bomb the UK and US embassies in Abuja.

A statement today by Tony Opuiyo, spokesperson of the DSS, said five persons namely - Isa Jibril, Jibril Jibril, Abu Omale Jibril, Halidu Sule and Amhodu Salifu - were arrested in connection.

CPC Investigations Clears Fanta & Sprite, Calls for Review of Industry Standards

The four-week old controversy over the safety of Benzoic acid levels in Fanta and Sprite has taken a new twist, as the Consumer Protection Council (CPC) said it found samples of Seven Up (a product of Pepsico) and Lucozade (a product of Glaxo SmithKline) to contain Benzoic levels of up to 330.0mg/kg and 323.53mg/kg respectively - far higher than the Nigerian regulatory standard of 250mg/kg; while Fanta and Sprite, two brands that have been in the eye of the storm, were found to contain levels that were within the standard.

The CPC made this disclosure in a press release issued on Tuesday on the outcome of its investigation into possible safety issues in Fanta, Sprite and other select soft drinks, strongly canvassing for regulatory review and actions for safer soft drinks in Nigeria.

Two Men Jailed For 14 Months For Attempting To Steal Car

Attempted stealing? A Grade 1 Area Court, Kado, Abuja, has sentenced two men - Isah Usman and Danjuma Shehu - to seven months imprisonment each for attempting to steal a car.

The convicts - Usman, 47, and Shehu, 33 - who reside at Mabushi area of Abuja, were found guilty of a two-count charge of a joint act and attempting to steal a car.

Dangote Driver Kills 3 People On Lagos/Ibadan Expressway

A Dangote truck driver, identified as Dairu Murtala, sent three men to their graves on Tuesday at the Arepo end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Murtala was said to be driving against the traffic when he crushed the victims, who were about to cross the expressway into the Arepo community.

It was learnt that despite the incident, the driver did not stop, but was chased by some motorcyclists to Magboro, a neighbouring community, where he was apprehended.

UPDATE: Magu To Remain Acting Chairman Of EFCC

The presidency yesterday gave the clearest indication yet that it would not succumb to the Senate and remove Ibrahim Magu as chairman of the EFCC.

The Senate recently refused to screen presidential nominees for the position of resident electoral commissioners, saying it would not do so until Magu is removed as EFCC boss.

But speaking at an interview with journalists and activists on Tuesday night, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo said Magu enjoys the confidence of he and the president.

His words; “I’m fully in support of Magu as the EFCC Chairman just as the president is...”
