The tale of how of a new generation bank at Akowonjo, Lagos, was robbed last year won’t be complete without the mention of Eboma Onyeka, a Police Sergeant who was at the time of the incident attached to the Mobile Police Unit 20, at Ikeja.

Onyeka had allegedly conspired with four others, including an employee of the said bank and robbed the bank he was to secure of about N10m in April 2011. A security guard attached to the bank, Sunday Ogundipe, was strangled in the process.

An anti-corruption watchdog group, Anti-Corruption Network, led by former house member Dino Melaye has provided photos of a residence it claimed was built for Nigeria's minister of the Niger Delta ministry, Elder Godsday Orubebe in the Mabushi area of Abuja. (See more photos below)

Mr. Dino stated that a construction company Setraco built and delivered the new mansion to Mr. Orubebe in less than six months after the company benefited from contracts to build part of the East-West road in the under-veleoped Niger Delta region.

Chief Tony Okoroji, Chairman, Copyright Society of Nigeria, (COSON), the nation’s sole approved collective management organization for musical works and sound recordings has called for cooperation and mutual understanding in the establishment of the proposed Collective Management Organisation, (CMO) for the Nigerian movie industry. According to him selfish interest and personal gains should be discarded by all parties to ensure success of the CMO from take off. 

The establishment of the proposed CMO he stated can help the unity of the industry. He said “Collective management cannot solve all the problems of the movie industry but it can help the industry speak more and more with one voice and create a lot more wealth for the practitioners. For an effective collective management system to evolve in the Nigerian film industry, a system that will make the likes of Hubert Ogunde happy where ever, they may be, the different practitioners, guilds and associations must understand that it is far better to come together and jaw-jaw rather than war-war.

Pastor Confesses To Stealing Computers, Ipad

A 45-year-old pastor, Peter Oladiti has appeared before an Ibadan Magistrates’ Court charged with stealing Ipad and other sets of computer set valued at over N240,00.

Prosecutor Sikiru Opaleye told the court that the accused also allegedly stole an HP laptop computer valued N85,000 and a printing machine worth N8,000, property of a secondary school principal.

A former councillor of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State, Onimole Babatunde, is currently being detained at the Area E Police Command, Festac, Lagos for allegedly stabbing an 18-year-old girl in the neck after she refused his love advances at a night club.

On October 26, the teenage girl, Miss Mariam Abubakar, went to Pearl Habour Night Club in Rochester Garden Hotel, Festac to “catch weekend fun.”

Ribadu Report: NNPC Is The Centre Of Corruption

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has been described as a ‘centre’ of corruption in the country. This is according to the All Nigeria Peoples Party.

According to the Nuhu Ribadu-led task force, mandated to verify all petroleum upstream and downstream revenues (taxes, royalties, etc) payable to the Federal Government, NNPC gets an allocation of 445,000bpd of crude oil to refine locally but it has been selling the product at cut-down prices.

The practice, the task force said, resulted in the country losing $5bn between 2002 and 2011.

Gowon Lambasts Achebe; Says His Book Was Written Out of Ignorance

A suicide bomber attacked St. Rita Catholic Church, Angwar Yero, Badarawa area of Malali, Kaduna, on Sunday morning. As at the time of posting, two others have been confirmed dead apart from the bomber. The total number of casualties is not yet known. (See more pictures below)

Apart from the church, the explosion damaged other surrounding buildings. Men of the Nigeria Police Force are trying to control the situation as the explosion has heightened tension around the area and there are fears of further violence by youths of the area.

Patience Jonathan’s Secret Overseas Trip

Some Nigerians were at their fawning best when the wife of the President, Patience Jonathan, returned from her unannounced overseas trip recently. A crowd of hangers-on in the Presidency trooped to the airport to receive her amid singing and dancing. Some wore T-shirts proclaiming their love and solidarity for the President’s wife.

Though Mrs. Jonathan’s well-wishers reserve the right to celebrate the return of a woman who is probably their benefactor, it is awkward and bizarre for senior cabinet ministers to join in such banality.
