Revolution Can't Happen Because Nigerians Are Too Scared; Says Gov Amaechi

Rivers State Governor and Chairman of Nigerian Governors' Forum, Rotimi Amaechi, has ruled out the possibility of having a violent revolution in the country because of the fear factor in many Nigerians.
“Yes, revolution can happen outside Nigeria. But here, I do not think so. Tell me what happened in Sudan, Libya, Zimbabwe and other countries that have not happened here. Our elasticity has no limit. You do not pray for electricity to be regular but you know that some Nigerians pray ‘God, let the light be stable today.’
We pray without working to solve our problems and we think God will do what we are supposed to do for us.”
Governor Amaechi stated this in Ekiti State on Saturday at the second Nigeria Symposium for Young and Emerging Leaders. He said many Nigerians had become used to suffering rather than pushing for a change.

According to him, Nigeria has experienced worse situations than what led to revolution in some other countries but fear will not allow them take necessary action.

Amaechi said he was sure that those who gathered to protest against the removal of oil subsidy in January 2012 would flee immediately the President drafted soldiers to the Freedom Park in Lagos and other states to quell the uprising, and so it happened.

Stressing that courage is very important to make any meaningful change in Nigeria, Governor Amaechi said anyone who truly wants to see change in Nigeria would never be afraid of guns.

I think he has spoken the truth. Do you agree with him that Nigerians are too scared?

  8. Yes Gov Amaechi spoke the truth. Nigerians are cowards and are highly afraid to put their lives on the line for the sake of the country.
If nigeria was ruled like libya nobody would think of toppling the government not to talk of killing the president.
Upon the good things ghadafi did for libyans still he was killed.
Nigerians are afraid and revolution can't work.
If the moslems in nigeria can act like their counterparts in arab countries, revolution can work in nigeria.
Take the case of Boko Haram.-----Mckenzie

  9. Amaechi is a real man he best man to change this country if he is given a chance to be the president.Remember what Prof. Wole Soyinka said "if you educate a man in mind you educate the menance of the society"If tell educate a man in mind he will know that littering waste is an unhealthy act because flies will petch on the open waste and petch on his food transmitting diseases to him.Man will proper disposal of waste since he is doing harm to himself.Secondly, nobody wants live a careless lifesyle.if all youths of this country are educated the problem of militancy and boko haram sect will be reduced the educated once will turn their ring leaders.80% of Nigerians are suffering. This a country where you a carrer of being a Doctor you end up being a conductor, you want to be an engineer you end up being a masion. Many youths of this country are willing to go school but there is no money i don't think a youth when class occupied by classwork will have the time to go in to militancy, boko haram, robbery, internet fraud also called yahoo yahoo business. So the problem of this country is nail down to education.Look at what he is doing in his state sending hundreds willing youths abroad to study the course of their choice, increasing literacy rate in his state, how many governors are doing it even the FG.Everything people say that the Yourbas are intelligent, yes why won't they be.Awolowo saw the need for education and declared free education in the west see where they are now.Amaechi is man that have passion for education and i know he will do more become the president...IKENNA .E.
