The Nigerian Army on Monday indicated that it would likely reinstate Major Al-Mustapha into the service following the dismissal of a murder suit against him.
The Nigerian Army on Monday indicated that it would likely reinstate Major Al-Mustapha into the service following the dismissal of a murder suit against him.
Col. John Agim, Chief of Staff in the Directorate of the Army Public Relations told reporters: “With regards to Mustapha’s release, well, I want to confirm that he is still in the army. The case is going to be handled by the Army administratively in line with the harmonised terms and conditions of service."
Al-Mustapha, the former Chief security Officer to former head of state, late Gen. Sani Abacha, regained his freedom on Friday after over 14 years in detention while standing trial for murder.
A Court of Appeal, sitting in Lagos, discharged and acquitted him over an alleged conspiracy and the murder of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, on June 4, 1996.
The court had upturned a death sentence handed down on him on January 30, 2013, by Justice Mojisola Dada, of a Lagos High Court.
The former CSO on Sunday assured journalists that he is still in the Army during a reception in his honour by the Kano state government, a status he claimed as his right.
Nigerian Army has however cleared the air, saying they are still working out administrative terms with regards to the case of Al-Mustapha, as such he has not been promoted.

Deleteone reason obama will never branch nigeria in any of his africa visit.our politics is so messed up. NO doubt al mustapha release was one of the conditions given to the president by boko haram, and the weak husband and president yielded. what a shame!
ReplyDeletewhen moral ethics are forgoten the life and destiney of man decay
ReplyDeleteAl-Mustapha congrats, you are very lucky, but would you have delt with others the same way you have been delt with when step on your toes as Chief security Officer to former head of state, late Gen. Sani Abacha???
ReplyDeleteFor Googluck, you have tried by understanding the northerner in releasing Mustapher through the court, but why didn't you understand your brother (Rotimi Amechi)???.
For Goodluck, If this release of Mustapher is a pruduct of your magnanimity, you are a free man God bless you, but if it is for you to win the mind of the northerner against 2015 election, your case may be the same as that of Aguiyi Ironsi in early 60s.
For Nigeria, Who killed Kudirat Abiola??????????????
For Nigerian Youths, Why are living all these old, wicked, illitrate, hearthless, vissionless, outdated and close to grave politicians to rule this nation? can't we react like Egyptian & the other African countries who want a change. Ebere.
This is another boko haram condition for cease fire. Our government just yielded.
ReplyDeleteOnly GOD knows who was behind d death of Hajia Kudirat Abiola. This is bcos an enemy might use d advantage of frictions btw late Gen. Abacha & Abiola 2 perpetrate d evils against her. Had it been dat late MKO Abiola, Gen. Tunde Idiagbo, etc died during d reign of Abacha-Al-Mustapha/Roger, such death would have be associated with Al-Mustapha. Even one mrs. Rice testified d death of MKO as a result of poision. Who were behind it are unknown up till dis moment. My prayer is dat may Allah safe us 4rm unfortunate coincidence circumstance. I‘m very sure dat a sinner shall not go free unpunished, & we should relax sentiments in our comments. Yusuf Kazaure.
ReplyDeleteYusuf I have nt seen a muslem sounding like yuo. You special. Ebere

What then afterwards?
Hmmmmmm!
why some people hate north and northerners? why anything that has to do with north people will be saying things nagatively? hashimu
ReplyDeleteIf the promotion is in accordance with the military ethics, I don't see anything wrong with it. Al Mustafa is a soldier and was facing charges and hes acquitted of the crimes he was accused. You don't expect the military to do away with the years he was facing the charges as he was and still an active officer. No politics here!
ReplyDeleteAm not against the north or either any other tribe.Am igbo guy the son of the soil. What i am against is the leaders of the nation called Nigeria. They should all be flushed out and let capable hands be the captains steering the affairs of the nation, then we all will know that Nigeria is a sweet nation be u hausa, igbo, yoruba etc. etc.May God help Nigeria.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised because we are in nigeria wie unthinkable stuffs happened, where corruption and other vices is being celebrated but nigerian watch out there is something behind. Al-mustapha release.
ReplyDeleteAl Mustapha has been given what belongs to him because he was never a convict and there is no reason calling President Jonathan and his wife on this matter again.
ReplyDeleteIf our President is unable to perform in moving the country forward then the blames will be on all Nigerians because we hardly give this President a break and am not surprise if he decides to go on a vacation trip because the troubles he is getting from us is definitely too much.
We must always read and understand the procedures of things before putting blame on President Jonathan, Just Imagine if it was in Nigeria that a white man was freed for killing a Black man which was what happened in the United States. We would have seen our so called activist raining abusive words on our President, Haba lets allow this country to move forward and allow those in position to do their best for this Great Nation Nigeria.
God bless our Dear President Jonathan and God Bless our Great Nation Nigeria!!!
The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.- Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, in a statement on Tuesday, described the Internet publication as erroneous.
ReplyDeleteThe Court of Appeal on Friday acquitted Al-Mustapha over the killing of the wife of business mogul, MKO Abiola, Kudirat.
Attahiru said, “The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to an erroneous publication being circulated on the Internet about the decoration of the former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, Major Al-Mustapha with the rank of Brigadier-General following his recent acquittal by the court.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to advise the media to always cross check facts before going to the press to avoid misinformation, misrepresentation, and sensationalism in its reportage.”
Meanwhile, a former Information Minister, Chief Edwin Clark, has applauded the acquittal of Al-Mustapha by the court.
Clark, in a statement on Tuesday, said there was a need for the review of the criminal administration law in the country.
Clark, a lawyer, said it amounted to injustice and gross abuse of natural and human rights to keep Al-Mustapha as well as other inmates for a longer period than the time that the sanction for their charge would have been in event of return of guilty verdict.
Former Provost-Marshal, Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Idada Ikponmwen (retd.), on Tuesday also said the protracted trial of Al-Mustapha revealed the serious defect in the country’s judicial system.
Speaking in Benin, Edo State, Idada described Al-Mustapha’s acquittal as victory for the rule of law. He, however, said the former CSO got his “legal victory due to failure of the prosecution to proof its allegation.”
you are right sir
