Ribadu Report: NNPC Is The Centre Of Corruption

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has been described as a ‘centre’ of corruption in the country. This is according to the All Nigeria Peoples Party.

According to the Nuhu Ribadu-led task force, mandated to verify all petroleum upstream and downstream revenues (taxes, royalties, etc) payable to the Federal Government, NNPC gets an allocation of 445,000bpd of crude oil to refine locally but it has been selling the product at cut-down prices.

The practice, the task force said, resulted in the country losing $5bn between 2002 and 2011.

A suicide bomber attacked St. Rita Catholic Church, Angwar Yero, Badarawa area of Malali, Kaduna, on Sunday morning. As at the time of posting, two others have been confirmed dead apart from the bomber. The total number of casualties is not yet known. (See more pictures below)

Apart from the church, the explosion damaged other surrounding buildings. Men of the Nigeria Police Force are trying to control the situation as the explosion has heightened tension around the area and there are fears of further violence by youths of the area.

Governor In Plane Crash Moves With Life Support Machine To National Hospital

Governor Danbaba Suntai of Taraba State, who was involved in a plane crash on Thursday, was moved to the National Hospital in Abuja for further medical attention on Friday.

Suntai arrived in an ambulance belonging to the State House Medical Centre with registration number SH 576 at about 2pm amid tight security.

He was bandaged up and placed on a life support machine, complete with an oxygen mask and other gadgets, on arrival at the hospital located in the central area, Abuja.

Ribadu's Report on Oil Sector Meant to Embarrass President Jonathan

Reuters had on Wednesday quoted extensively from the report, which it said was confidential. The 146-page report, according to Reuters, had stated that a total of $183m (N28.73bn) in signature bonuses paid by oil companies to the federation was missing.

The report said that Ministers of Petroleum Resources between 2008 and 2011 handed out seven discretionary oil licences, but that $183m in signature bonuses was missing from the deals.

Three of the oil licences were said to have been awarded since the current minister, Alison-Madueke, took up her position in 2010.
