The Principal of Ajuwon Senior High School in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, Rev. Olufunke Oladeojobi, has been quizzed by the police for conducting illegal "virginity tests" on the pupils.
Rev Oladeojobi, who was described by her pupils as a strict person, called in a nurse and jointly carried out virginity tests on a group of 10 students last week Monday.It was further learnt by Punch Metro that the principal did not seek the consent of the parents/guardians of the pupils before conducting the test on Senior Secondary School 1 pupils.
During the test, it was alleged that the principal and the nurse whose name could not be ascertained allegedly dipped their fingers into the pupils’ private parts.
A 15-year-old pupil, who identified herself simply as Ayo, said the principal came into the classroom on the day and announced that all female SSS 1 pupils should converge on the assembly ground.
She said the principal subsequently asked that those who had yet to lose their virginity should stand apart.
Ayo said, “We are over 600 in SSS 1 but only about 300 of us are females. Those of us that are virgins are 38 and we were matched into the principal’s office with the assistance of members of staff.
“They subsequently divided us into three groups of 10, 15 and 13 and I was in the second group. The principal later addressed us and threatened that any pupil who fails the test would have her name written in the school’s black book and would be suspended.”
Ayo said she became apprehensive when everyone who emerged from the office where the test was being carried out came out with a sad and disgusting look.
She said, “When my class captain emerged from the room, I asked her why anyone that came out of the office looked depressed? I was held spell bound when she told me that the principal and the nurse dipped their fingers in turns into their private parts, adding that she had started bleeding as a result of the penetration.
“Just as I was asking further questions from her, the principal dashed out of her office and announced that she had discovered one student who had lost her virginity out of the 10 students that were examined.
“She wrote her name on one of the notice boards in her office and ordered the rest of us to return to our various classes. Two of my friends who had similar experiences burst into tears as they narrated what happened.”
A thirteen-year-old SSS I pupil of the school, identified simply as Ujunwa, said the principal was happy that she was able to “catch a promiscuous pupil” as she felt proud to discuss it on the assembly ground the next day.
The reverend's joyous moments was however short-lived when the parents of the 10 pupils stormed the school in protest against the development.
The pupils rebelled against Oladeojobi last Wednesday as they did a sit-in on the assembly ground protesting and demanding that she should be redeployed from the school. It was the teachers’ intervention that calmed the pupils.
Ujunwa said, “The parents of the girl that was said to have lost her virginity who happens to be a member of the Press Club and the other nine parents besieged the school last Tuesday and Wednesday and queried our principal for conducting such an unauthorised test on their children.
“The parents then came with policemen attached to the Ajuwon Police Division where they had reported the incident on Thursday and arrested our principal.”
When our correspondent visited the school on Tuesday, the school had closed for the term while Oladeojobi’s office was shut. Her telephone rang out while a text message sent to her phone was not responded to.
When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer of Ajuwon Division, Mr. Waheed Yusuf, a Chief Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident.
A policeman who spoke on condition of anonimity said: “She confessed that she conducted virginity tests on the pupils and that ‘she was trying to help them.’ We took her in for questioning on Thursday and Friday but she was not detained as my superiors were taking into consideration that she is a civil servant."
Many small girls of this days are sleeping around.... So I dont see anything wrong with the test if the girls are not wayward... Kalu

If you have female children, you will know what it means for your child to come back from school and tell you that someone forcefully dipped a finger in her private part. You will understand that the principal's action amounts to rape. She has just raped those children, because she has forcefully had carnal knowledge of the children. And am very sure, patience if they did that to you when you were in school, you would have cried murder.

please people stop talking like barbarians. i was a virgin all through my years in secondary school but notwithstanding what the principal did was wrong and i don't think i would hve liked someone doing that to me when i was in school. it is a barbaric act. instead of checking whether they were virgins she should have been educating them on unsafe sex and the consequences.she should be jailed. she might have even disvirgined some of them in the process of checking.

ReplyDeleteThe acts of the principal is very much invasive of the unfortunate girls privacy, the girls who were bleeding need counsel and support for whatever molestation they have suffered. The place of sexual consent is only for the intending participant to decide after complying role of law in terms of the age of consent. It is a shame that such girls are subject to humiliation and molestation by someone they trust. If a girl is a virgin or not is none of the principal’s business. Everyone one should have choices and make the right choices with time knowing the implications. Education is about knowing how to make your mind work for you so that when you make choices and take actions you can work the implications out and verify whether you can cope with the consequences or not. Boys or men cannot get pregnant, only girls can get pregnant, sexual abstinence should not be limited to issues of STD's and unwanted pregnancies alone. People should be educated on the emotional implications of instant gratification. We all at one time or the other will make decisions about life partners but some things have to be accomplished first in order to make the decisions we would be proud of long-term. I personally feel if you want to make girl/boy become promiscuous, then encourage them to have under -age sex at (13-17) but if you want them to be sound and effective teach and encourage them to value themselves with good self-esteem and great body confidence. Help them learn how to communicate very intelligently with all their emotions and perfect the art of emotional intelligence while they delay their gratification for sex till they are financially responsible to meet the consequences of their actions. Nobody was born promiscuous, people become promiscuous by choice or unfavourable unfortunate circumstances. Everything we do comes from our minds if we nurse fears long-term we reap the fruits of fear. The principal was scared these girls may fall into wrong hands to get pregnant, thus bringing the reputation of the school to shame. These girls should be encouraged to make sensible platonic friendships even with the opposite sex but with sensible boundaries so that they can know how the man’s world works. It is only in knowledge that we have wisdom. Lots of married women are at the present crying daily because they do not understand their husbands. This issue may be traced to the untapped platonic friendships with males they forsook over the years during their high school.
