Nigerian Students in Deadly Protest Over New Fees
In an attempt to register their grievances against the decision of their school authority to force them to pay higher school fees, students of the University of Calabar rioted overnight. The protests which spiraled out of control recorded several attacks on homes and offices of the Vice Chancellor of the institution.
An eyewitness gave an update on the riot thus: "right now the university vice chancellor's office (has been) set ablaze by the students, the major road leading in and out of the school and major street blocked. Police are seen every were but they can do little because they can't enter into the university community, all they do now is try to stop weapons from being taken into the school compound."
Violence anywhere should not be supported but condemned... However, this incessant increase in tuition and other sundry fees should be checked by relevant agencies of government before it degenerates into a crisis situation.
Addition report: Saharareporters.

Obama Declares State of Emergency in Few States
In a bid to prioritize federal resources to support ongoing response efforts, U.S. President, Barack Obama, has declared a state of emergency in most of the states hit by Hurricane Irene, including North Carolina, Virginia and New York. He however cautioned Americans in an address that "it is not over".
Major airports serving New York and nearby cities are expected to re-open today (Monday). Much of her subway system is also expected to be available for commuters returning to work. The storm, which is no longer a hurricane, still has winds of 85 kilometers per hour and had now moved into Canada.
Recall that severe flooding swept across much of the eastern coast, causing massive damage to infrastructure and public utilities. The storm killed at least 18 people and paralyzed air traffic for days.

They claimed there is no iota of truth in such rumour and that it should be disregarded by all and sundry.
Mr. Nwachukwu Mamah, CEO of Ape Planet, expressed shock and disappointment at the report, saying: “I do not know the source or basis for that malicious report and they never even attempted to contact us to confirm the story. It is just a mere fiction of the writer’s imagination. I can assure you that all is well between P-Square and Bracket and it will remain so for a long time.”
You may wish to note that Bracket recently gave an outstanding performance during P-Square's album concert in Lagos, and their handlers claimed such is also an indication that no rift currently exist between the two groups.

All Set for the Premiere of 'The Return Of Jenifa'
Nollywood/Yoruba actress, Funke Akindele, aka: ‘Gbogbo Bigs Girls’, has intimated that her much anticipated movie - The Return Of Jenifa - will be premiered in the United States on September 3, before coming to Nigeria on September 23 at the Muson Centre in Lagos. She added that the movie would hit the cinemas nationwide the same day.
In her words: “It feels good not only to have The Return Of Jenifa premiered in the United States but to know the movie has no geographical limit. Our decision to premiere the movie abroad was strictly based on the demand of Jenifa fans, and that is what makes it exciting.”
Directed by DJ Tee, The Return Of Jenifa featured top movie and music stars such as Banky W, Denrele, Eldee, Antar Laniyan, Iyabo Ojo, Ireti Osayemi, Helen Paul, Omawunmi, Yinka Quadri, etc.
A lot is already being said about the latest in the Jenifa series, with critics questioning the essence of a "part three" since, according to them, the movie ended well in Jenifa part 2.

"Disgusting" Facebook Profile Picture Creates Uproar
Authorities in South Africa are investigating a white man's Facebook profile picture with a hunting rifle and a big grin kneeling in a classic hunter's pose over what appears to be the lifeless body of a black boy - as if he is his "prey".
The minister of Police Affairs, Nathi Mthethwa, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter and ordered the man in the facebook photo to come forward and declare whether the picture is a fake or has been doctored.
A South African-based child rights organisation, Women and Men Against Child Abuse, described the picture as "sickening and disgusting". Director of the organisation, Miranda Jordan, reacted to the issue thus: "This hate image incites racism that almost all South Africans have fought so hard to eradicate."
The profile name on the facebook account is "Eugene Terrorblanche", he has about 570 friends as at the time of publishing... The authorities have even threatened to sue his facebook friends, if the photograph is found to be real, for failure to speak up against it.
