Enugu State-born Mrs. Ngozi Aniobi is a female carpenter in Bauchi, the capital of Bauchi State. Her works continue to win her more customers and accolades because of the high quality of furniture she produces. When she’s at her workshop along Bakin Kura Street, you can’t miss the dexterity and uncanny passion she exhumes. She saws, drills, chisels and polishes pieces of furniture to the admiration of passersby.
Four the past 11 years, Mrs. Aniobi has successfully run and sustained the furniture business - Liberty Furniture - started by her late husband in 1980. “The secret is hard work and God. Even sand paper, the commonest work in furniture, I must supervise to make sure it is okay or up to my taste. It was not easy at the beginning, but with God, all things are possible,” she told a reporter recently.
As a mark of recognition, the National Youth Organisation recently awarded her outfit the ‘Best Furniture Company in Bauchi State’. The widow and mother of four is the only known female carpenter in the state.
