Unemployed Graduates Drag Jonathan to Court

Unemployment: the plight of most Nigerian graduates today
Some fresh graduates from the Nigerian Army Military School, Zaria, have dragged President Goodluck Jonathan to court, challenging what they termed as plans by the Army Council to "demilitarize" the school.  The suit was filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja, by one Ayuba Abdul, an alumnus of the school, on behalf of others.

In a 25-paragraph affidavit in support of the motion, the plaintiff said: "This was evident as the last batch of boys who passed out from the institution on August 6, 2011 are yet to be posted to their units". They argued that the move negates the essence of establishing the institution in the first instance.

Others named in the suit include the Chief of Army Staff, the Attorney General of the Federation, the Nigerian Army Council and the Nigerian Army... But what exactly are our political leaders doing, in concrete terms, to address unemployment in this country? I just hope they would not wait until this issue snowball into something negative in the near future.

Boko Haram's Next Target Revealed

The next target of the now dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, is the heart of Nigerians military administration, the Ministry of Defence building in Abuja known as 'Ship House', an intelligence report in possession of the armed forces has revealed.

As a result of the findings, according to a report monitored in TheTribune, additional security measures are now in place around the vicinity to forestall such incident. “The military is the last hope of every Nigerian, and once this place is targeted, then the country is in trouble and that is why additional security measures are being put in place,” a top insider source was quoted.

I thought our security agencies are on top of this situation by now? So, how the hell do these guys have time and space to conscript another attack, let alone target such a high profile building?

Christy Essien-Igbokwe Goes Home

With a galaxy of stars and other prominent Nigerians hanging out in honour of the Lady of Songs, late Chief Christy Essien-Igbokwe, the night of tributes at the Niteshift Coliseum, Ikeja, was indeed an epoch making feast.

It was a gathering of who-is-who in the entertainment and government circles, many of who openly extolled the virtues and legacies of the late artiste.

Her remains will be committed to mother earth this weekend in Awka, Anambra State.  May her gentle soul rest in peace. Amen!

Blackface Goes Bankrupt, Wife Wants Divorce

Ex-Plantashun Boiz squad-mate, Blackface, is separating from his wife of eight years, I gathered from a report monitored on Question Mark. his financial crisis is said to be so bad that his wife, identified as Dayo, moved out of their matrimonial home about six months ago.

The crux of the matter is said to be Blackface's inability to fend for their children. I further gathered that the two are taking the separation as matured adults, "pending when a formal divorce will be obtained in the court".

This is such a sad development for Blackface whose real name is, Ahmedu Augustince Obiabo. He was doing well only a few years back, I wonder what would have gone wrong.

Nigeria - Where Are The Jobs?

Nasir El-rufai gives another interesting read...
Today, Nigeria has about 90 million people who are willing and able to work, but about 70 million of them have no gainful employment. This is an alarming figure, but when the 4.7 million people captured in the formal sector in the latest statistics from the Pensions Commission is increased by the three to four times standard multiplier to capture those in the informal sector, it means that only about 20 million Nigerians have jobs, out of a population of 162 million.

So every day, millions of our unemployed brothers and sisters - including those entering the workforce for the first time and others who lost their jobs due to the incompetent management of our economy - anxiously scan the pages of newspapers and websites for job advertisements; less than 10 per cent of applicants will be successful, but at least three million more unemployed people will join them next year.

Why are unemployment and inflation rates rising while productivity continues to decline? Why have our vast resources not created massive employment opportunities for Nigerians? The most despairing aspect is the fact that the worst affected are Nigerians between the ages of 21 and 40 years - the future leaders of our country...

PDP Rejects Obasanjo Over Tambuwal

The ruling PDP has rejected calls by former President Olusegun Obasanjo that the duo of Amina Tambuwal and Emeka Ihedioha should step down from the leadership of the House of Representatives and the position given back to the South-West geo-political zone.

Reacting to the ex-leader's position, the acting national chairman of the party, Abubakar Kawu Baraje, said: “We have put June 6 aberration behind us as all the key actors acknowledged their fault and apologized to PDP and to Nigerians. When a child accepts his fault you do not give them more punishment than it is due to them and they have served their punishment through the apology.”

Recall that Obasanjo had at a meeting of the BOT few weeks ago demanded their resignation after two years... Some are of the opinion that the former president is loosing touch with reality, while others believe he's making the right call. But here is the real question: 'Is zoning truly dead in PDP'?
