In Commemoration of 9/11...

The United States government and other world leaders marked the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks today - Sunday. The occasion is being discussed in significantly different ways in the media; for some it is a time for mourning, for others a time for reflection. 

Recall that three coordinated terrorist attacks on New York, Washington and Pennsylvania on 11 September 2001 killed nearly 3,000 people. Four passenger jets were hijacked by Al-Qaeda, two crashed into the Twin towers of the World Trade Centre in New York, one into the Pentagon in Washington and one into a field in Pennsylvania. 

Images of the smouldering remains of the World Trade Centre, in particular, remain embedded in the public memory. US President Barak Obama is travelling to all three sites as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives.

220 Bodies Recovered from Tanzanian Boat Mishap

Search and rescue efforts still ongoing

As at today (Sunday 11-09-2011) about 220 corpses have been recovered from the ferry that sank near a tourist destination in Tanzania. Nearly 600 were rescued in the accident that has thrown the country into mourning. 

Survivors said the M.V. Spice Islanders, which sank early Saturday, carried beyond its official capacity of 600 passengers.  Of the 220 who lost their lives, relatives had claimed 192 bodies and 28 more were awaiting identification. Among the dead are little children. 

I heard the government has launched a manhunt for the captain of the vessel.

The Reason Most Guys Don't Want To Get Married

They can get sex without marriage more easily than in time past:

A lot of men realize now that they can get sex more easily than in times past, when women insisted in getting married before sex. I am a man and I can tell you that a lot of women have lost it when it comes to keeping themselves whole. 

I am not so sure who is more promiscuous these days anymore, because it seems women offer sex like no man’s business this time around. There are women now who are sleeping with about 4 men at the same time and probably accommodate more if they can. 

When women come to me to tell me how their husband was caught in Adultery, and seek my opinion as per if they should leave him, I always reassure them that most men who commit adultery these days, don’t go out looking for these ladies, but that the ladies seem to be everywhere making themselves available and have removed the fun we men use to have chasing them, since they are just there not to be chased but to be taken and dropped. 

When men realize that they can have all the sex they want without getting married, they just don’t see the point getting married...

Dogs Better Off Than Prisoners in Nigeria

Few weeks ago, the Nigerian Prisons Service resuscitated its hitherto abandoned dog patrol team to enhance effective control of inmates. The measure is aimed at checkmating incidence of jailbreak. However, the gist is that the dogs in the kennel of the Service are more esteemed than Nigerian citizens serving jail terms in the prisons. 

That seem to explain why the feeding allowance given to each patrol dog per day is N3,000 while that of the inmates is around N200. What, 200 bucks! I didn't believe it myself when I first heard it until I stumbled on what the Controller-General of Prisons, Olusola Ogundipe, said about the issue. 

He was quoted to have said that the wide disparity in the budget for the dogs and inmates was because that of the dogs covers both feeding and medication, while for the inmates it's only for feeding... Una don hear? So, guys make sure you don't do anything that will land you in prison, particularly a Nigerian prison. Otherwise, Bingo don become your Oga o!

A Lesson From Cobhams Asuquo

Given the rate at which love is fading in homes these days due, largely, to the 'artificial' nature of most young ladies and guys; song writer and music producer, Cobhams Asuquo, gives a fresh perspective to the mystery called love. 

Question: If you don’t see your wife, how would you appreciate her beauty? 

His answer: First of all, I think we need to look past the misconception that beauty is only outwards. A person is not just beautiful because she looks beautiful. There are a lot of people who look beautiful but who are troubled inside. And the truth is that by the time you deal with their drama, the facial beauty would mean nothing to you after all. I was and I am still attracted to her because of her inward beauty, even though that now she is my wife and obviously within the bounds of marriage there is a certain level of contact and exposure of one to another we are permitted, which helps me even more to appreciate her outward beauty. 

Because touch is an amazing thing, and there is so much you can appreciate, there is so much outward beauty you can appreciate with sight that touch gives you a better sense of. So, I appreciate my wife because I am the closest person to her; I am close enough to know when she has just made her hair or when her hair is not combed; close enough to know how she smells and how she feels.

I think there are a lot of things more important than outward beauty even though outward beauty is important. It is not whether my wife wears a smile or a frown, but I can connect with her to know whether inwardly she is happy or sad because looks can be deceptive.
