Report: How Government Officials Wasted Nigeria's Refineries

Carelessness by government officials is responsible for the breakdown of refineries in the country, the report of Dr Kalu Idika Kalu-led refineries task force has revealed.

The task force, in its report submitted to President Goodluck Jonathan, also listed wrong business model, poor governance structure and poor maintenance among some of the factors that hindered the existing refineries to operate at optimum capacities.

Another damning report has exposed the depth of corruption in the Nigerian oil and gas sector. The Idika Kalu National Refineries Special Task Force, like previous reports, revealed the dismal state of Nigeria’s four government-owned refineries, thus depicting how colossal funds spent on their Turn Around Maintenance have gone down the drain.
