Dino Melaye Lacks Honour; He Is Sponsored By Subsidy Thieves -Okonjo Iweala

         

The Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has described Dino Melaye as a "disreputable former member of the House of Representatives". She also accused Melaye of lacking honour and common decency.

Reacting to a protest led by Dino to the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday calling for the resignation of the controversial minister, Okonjo-Iweala accused him of being sponsored by oil marketers indicted in the subsidy probe.

But in a swift reaction Dino has said he would sue the minister for Libel.

Clear indications that President Goodluck Jonathan will seek re-election in 2015 emerged on Wednesday with a declaration by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs that the President’s transparent leadership and concrete performance would make Nigerians to ask him to run for a second term.

“As an insider I know what he has been doing since he took over as President of Nigeria. I am very certain in my mind that Nigerians are going to applaud him and even if he does not want to run for election in 2015, Nigerians are going to force him to run again because of the level of his performance.”

WILL NIGERIA BREAK UP IN 2015?

In 2014, Nigeria will mark the centenary of the amalgamation of the Southern and Northern protectorates which gave birth to present day Nigeria. As a former colony of the British, the country has existed for close to a century after a forced marriage of convenience in 1914, half of those turbulent years have been spent as an independent, sovereign nation having gained independence in 1960 and becoming a republic three years later. 

As the country approaches a century of nationhood, it is ironical that instead of celebrating the birth of a nation and a shared destiny, there are latent fears that the "mistake of 1914" may manifest in the break-up of the country in 2015- a year after the centenary date.

Ladies who engage in the shameful act of campus prostitution had become so shameless and bold that they leave “their profile, photo albums and phone contacts with hotel operators near their campuses for calls whenever ‘suitors’ demand their illicit services.”

A university professor, Elizabeth Balogun, on Wednesday raised the alarm over the high incidence of prostitution among female undergraduates in the country. She said girls are now initiated into the dirty trade following their membership of cult groups like the Black Bra and Pink Ladies.

Retired General Muhammadu Buhari yesterday said he will not be a mediator in the proposed talks with Boko Haram as he did not know any sect member and has nothing to do with the group. 

The former head of state spoke in Abuja in reaction to his reported nomination to be among mediators in dialogue with the sect, whose three-year campaign of violence has left at least 3,000 people dead according to estimates by Military authorities.
