How Bishop Disgraced Jonathan, Others During Azazi’s Burial

It was a big shame for President Goodluck Jonathan and other political leaders on Saturday in Bayelsa State as Bishop of Bomadi Catholic Diocese, Vicarage Hyacinth Egbebor, in his homily, blamed the crash that killed former NSA Andrew Azazi and former Governor Patrick Yakowa on corruption.

At the state funeral of Azazi in Peace Park, Yenagoa, attended by President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Patience, the Minister of God insisted that leaders in the country were so corrupt that they had compromised the safety of everywhere, including the airspace.

The cleric wondered why within one year, Nigeria had recorded three air mishaps including the December 15 tragedy at Okoroba in Nembe Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

Slowly and gently, the priest, who intermittently drew applause from those at the solemn occasion, highlighted the failings of the government. Comparing the country’s airspace and aviation management to America and Europe, the cleric said Nigeria had become a joke.

Turning to the Military Chiefs present, the priest said it was unfortunate that corruption had crept into the military. “Corruption is the only underlying evil that is responsible for the air mishaps. If the military cannot guarantee the safety and security of their own, who else can they protect?

“If there is anywhere one looks for excellent performance, it is the military. Now we have compromised excellence for money. Money has taken over,” he said.

  2. The Bishop is speaking the truth and truth is bitter. How can a country that prides itself as d giant of African have nothing that is ever working?
They made military helicopters available 4 their so called dignatries like Kabu kabu in d air but forgot that these machines need maintenance but unfortunately someone in charge has stolen that money to enjoy with his numerous girlfriends at d expense of ppls lives?

U c how corruption and shortsightedness go hand in hand?

Jonathan came and made a lot of promises to nigerians and ppl beleieved this man. They even ignored d red light when it was discovered that Jonathans wife was trying to move 300million Dollars cash out of Nigeria.
Obasanjo switched frm his loyal partner Dr Odili and threw his weight for Jonathan to be President. Today both of them r barely on speaking terms,Most Nigerians have lost faith in Jonathan cos he has surrounded himself with corrupt ppl mostly frm his ijaw tribe and he seems irritated to ans difficult or even solve difficult issues and he calls himself a PHD holder who is President?

Obasanjo should stop imposing leaders on over 200million nigerians and allow d due process to hold. If Jonathan ends his term and has nothing to show for it,let Nigerians give other parties a chance to rule. Enough of the shame of corruption. Ppl r in dire straits. Ppl r starving frm unemployment and poverty.
Not all Nigerians can fly to Germany for medical treatment like Patience Jonathan recently did,so we beg u our so called leaders 2 equip our hospitals and make sure lifes r saved in there. Fix our roads and stop these unwanton deaths cos of bad roads, maintain our aircrafts and make sure they r airworthy b4 they go up in d air.
Fight and jail corrupt bankers and politicians.
Nigeria is a consumer nation, change Nigeria to a prodUcer nation like other countries with foresight have done.Lord hear d cry of ur children and deliver us frm d shackle of bad ggovernance!

  3. And truth is always bittertell, then how can we move forward where corruption is the order of the day, becos corruption destroy and allows few to become too rich while millions lives in deep poverty

  4. The way to move forward is to clean up d system by indicting, trying and sending corrupt officials to prison. Stealing public money must be met with long prison sentences. To serve as a deterrant.
Bad leaders must be recalled and replaced. Just a few ideas to start with!

  27. The man of God can not be timid in the presence of man. What God asked him to delivered to people in the congregation. He has done it. Everybody's blood can never be required in his hand again.
