A shocking video have emerged of a woman going on a rant to patients in a hospital waiting room. The two-minute clip, filmed on Saturday night at Ipswich Hospital in Suffolk, saw the woman shout abuse at a Nigerian student, 23-year-old Gina Thompson and her 21-year-old Spanish friend.
The woman asked them ‘where do you come from’ before saying: ‘You're coming over here and you're pleading poverty. We are paying taxes you a***holes and we are going down in this crisis.’
The incident took place at 7:30pm in the hospital’s accident and emergency department waiting room, where Gina Thompson had gone with her friend who had sprained her ankle playing sport.
Gina is a film and media student at University Campus Suffolk and has been in the UK for two years, while her friend from Seville, Spain, arrived last September.
The woman shouted in front of about 20 shocked patients and friends or relatives: ‘What has happened to this f*****g country’, before directly abusing Gina who was sitting down.
She asked her ‘Where do you come from?’, to which Miss Thompson replied: ‘What does it matter where I'm from?’
The woman said: ‘We are paying taxes you a***holes and we are going down in this crisis’, before Gina replied: ‘Don't call me an a***hole’.
The woman said: ‘I will, because you're coming over here and you're pleading poverty. I am not well.’
And Gina responded: ‘You won't call me an a***hole. I will not accept that. Don't call me an a***hole. Don't come to my face and insult me. You won't do that. Calling me an a***hole? Are you alright?’
The woman said back: ‘Don't accept it, you fat a***’, before a voice off camera said the police had been called.
The woman was then apprehended by a group of nurses, paramedics and security guards, saying: ‘There's a revolution going on here.’
In a chat with Mail Online after the incident, Gina said ‘I was so embarrassed and I couldn’t do anything because I was stuck in the situation, so we just had to laugh about it. All the attention was on us.
‘She said I've come here to claim poverty. That's not true. I'm an international student and I pay £13,000 a year in tuition fees. My friend is a student here from Spain.’
‘It made me feel low of myself. I had to go back home and question why it was wrong I was here. My friend was surprised. She was scared, she was terrified.
‘She kind of felt unsafe afterwards. She is Spanish and her English is not perfect, but she could sort of understand what the woman was saying. When she got back home, she said: “Are we in trouble?”
‘This woman was a very normal looking woman who you wouldn't think would abuse you. How many people are the same like that? I’m scared.'
A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman told MailOnline: 'We have arrested and charged [her]. She has been charged with assault on a police officer, two counts of racially aggravated assault and two charges of assault. So, five charges altogether.'

ReplyDeleteIts so sad but true. that's the life we have gotten used to in diaspora. over here in malaysia i have a rented car outside but its better to take taxi to sch than to drive cus as soon as the cops over here see your dark skin there is 98% chance that they must pull you over and ask for things that dont exist. afterwards they will ask you to take off your gold necklace and wrist watch and money. broad day light stealing. i can remember when the cops pulled me over in front of my sch and took me to a narrow road collected my BB Bold 5 and 200 usd equivalent and gave me 10 usd back for fuel and toll so sad.

I can understand your frustration at the bad leadership in Nigeria but how do you know Gina is not the child of a struggling family who sold everything to send her to England and she is panicking now because she is about to get kicked out of school and inspite of doing all sorts of jobs around her studies she can't pay her school fees.

There are some people who will look for someone to blame for their woes and will pick on Joe foreigner.
I have lived in England now for 15 years and have seen racist whites, asians and blacks but most people are okay when you ge to know them.
Most racist people are those who have really not gotten to know these people personally and so from afar fear, mistrust and dislike them especially if their culture is foreign to them.
Before we start pointing fingers, even Nigerians have the tendency to be tribalistic. I went to a Federal government College in the 80's and I love people from all tribes in Nigeria and most people who went to FGC's are also not tribalistic because we have lived with, played with and eaten with people from other tribes.
However people who have not properly interacted with people from other tribes are the ones who only see negative things about their culture and are say the tribe is 'bad'.
I hate it when horrible things happen to people like Gina. You will hardly ever see things like that in London because they grow up together and hang out together so they don't see any difference. It's in places like Suffolk where they don't have a lot of black people that you see bigoted people like that nasty woman.
British people are generally nice people whether black, white or brown but there are also some idiots like that nasty woman.
Just like Nigerians are generally nice people whether Hausa, Igbo, Tiv, Ibibio, Yoruba, Bini e.t.c but there are some nasty tribalistic idiots too amongst us.
Also we don't really know if Gina is the child of a thieving politician or someone really struggling to get by and do something for hereslf.
I feel sorry for Nigeria students here, I thank God I finished my university before I came to England, it is so not easy so I think it's unfair some of the comments about her here without even getting to know her.
Those who spoke negatively about her are really no different to the nasty woman who was judging her without knowing her.

Mr Sobanjo,I am a Pharmacist here in Cleavland,Ohio. I do not agree with ur generalisation abt white on black racism. I have had customers who wanted me to go and call d pharmacist in my own store even when I had my name tag and position copiously displayed on my chest.

I am a white person , i live in the same town as this white woman, its a small working class town with very few black people ,when i was younger i took it on myself to try and travel and see some of the world - , these white people have lived in a bubble for so many years , the only time they meet black or Asian people is on a cheap package holiday once every year or so ,they are ignorant of how the world is changing, even 25 miles away in the local capital until they go to say, the hospital and meet the diverse world that the U.K is becoming, ,
