"Don't Dare Nigerians" - Labour Warns Jonathan Against Fuel Price Increase

The Nigeria Labour Congress has warned the Goodluck Jonathan-led Federal Government against any surreptitious move to increase the price of petroleum products in the country.

NLC President, Mr. Abdulwahed Omar, warned in a statement on Friday that any increase in the price of fuel would lead to a crisis as the congress would call out Nigerians to resist it. He warned that any increase in the prices of petroleum products would culminate in a crisis that would surpass the last January anti-fuel price hike demonstration.

Omar called on the President to focus his government attention on the need to frontally tackle the corruption that had held the nation’s oil sector hostage.

“The statement by the President claiming that only the removal of fuel subsidy will allow for domestic refining of fuel is highly disturbing. More so, coming at this time of the year, when many see the current fuel scarcity being experienced in most parts of the country as being artificially created,” Omar said.

“With the wave of revelations regarding monumental corruption in the petroleum industry it will be unimaginable to contemplate any other thing than focusing on ridding the industry of the endemic corruption that has become so pervasive in the industry,” Omar added.

  1. Jonathan is just looking for trouble if he goes ahead to remove subsidy.... He should sanitize the system and make all culprits refund the money they collected fraudulently

  2. I wonder the type of advisers he surrounded himself with. Bad advisers who don't wish the president well in office. The sycophants who are bent in looking for trouble from the people.
Its only through revolution that they would be eliminated outright since national assembly has become a toothless bull dog.
Why is it that its only when xmas is approaching that the govt will look for a way of hicking the cost of petrol causing unnecessary inconveniences to passengers and those celebrating christmas and new year.
Does it mean GEJ is not a christian?

Labour we know as a deceit should not drag workers to the street and abandone them mid-way to suffer as they last january.
Those indicted in the oil probe scam are still enjoying and walking majestically untouched in the street of the country while the president looks on mute. He keeps setting and resetting probe panels to look this and that and all the reports submitted on his table are stalled.
He keeps appointing committees to study this and that that have been studied ,verified and submitted thereby procrastinating the whole process with the intention of looking for a subterfuge to rubbish to whole process.
For the president to prevent his advisers from rubbishing him and his government before Nigerians , let him do what the Nigerian people prefer him to do than listening to his ministers and bad advisers.
If you perform well( ie fight corruption and recover our stolen money, create jobs for the people , adequate electricity supply , good roads , free education for our children , don't disturb the subsidy on oil , free medical care ) the road to another term is open for you but not on the platform of the PDP

  7. ANY PROBLEM? NLC THIS TIME AROUND MUST COME OUT WITH THEIR WIVES AND FAMILIES TO DIE IN THE PROTEST, SO THAT WHEN THE STRIKE IS CALL OFF A NEW PERSONS WILL ASSUME NLC DUTY. LET GEJ RAISE FUEL PRICE, NCL LEADERS WILL NOT DECEIVE POOR LABOURERS AGAIN, THEN GO BEHIND DOORS TO COLLECT THEIR SHARE. FROM THE HEAD TO TOE ALL ARE ROTTEN MANGOES IN NIGERIA.
