It is quite unfortunate the unrealistic way we set standards in Nigeria. Imagine a Nigeria Police that haven't been able to take care of the welfare of Secondary School Certificate holders who joined the police as Constables have decided to make Ordinary National Diploma (OND) as the minimum entry requirement.
What has changed in the welfare packages of the average policeman?
From available records, "ordinary" Civil Defence Corps now enjoy better treatment from the Ministry of Interior when compared to what policemen get from Ministry of Police Affairs.
Salaries are delayed unnecessarily. For some funny reasons giving by the authorities, in the month of December policemen are not paid before Christmas like others. They buy and sew their uniforms by themselves, etc, etc.
Although the new IG is trying to an extent but from the much I know an average policeman still lives in subsistence. Bringing in OND holders as Constables could just make things (especially corruption) worse as many of those with OND have spent quality time studying and, if not for lack of jobs in Nigeria, they would not voluntarily take some of the harsh treatment that Rank and Files go through in the police.
Police Service Commission should ensure that this new policy goes along with new welfare!

I pity the so called OND holders that will become constables in Nigeria Police, the worst organisation in Nigeria. Black and Black Uniform!!!!! No Way!!!! O.I.
ReplyDeletePolice are sent on special duty without arrangement for feeding. I remember d ones dqt went to Ekiti during one election, some did take their bath for 3 days.....
ReplyDeleteGood day all, police works is the most Dangerious work so far in the world,but Nigeria Government does not care for welfare of Nigeria police,all these terrorist,kidnappers,armed robbers and others are against Police,Nigeria police are doing their best everydays no week end,no public Holyday for them,the Time that people's injoy their life that is the Time they are busies working. How many police are die everydays in order to protect life and properties but Government do not know that ones particularly minister of police affairs,police service commission and Inpector General of Police.In Nigeria today Police organization are they one that have the high rate of widows and orphanances,most other uniforms men are established after Nigeria police but they are living better than police?, only person that do not know will joint Nigeria police as a recruit with OND but if he knew he will no do so because the way they are treatness the junior ones is unfair.I G K
