More facts continue to emerge from insiders about the role of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in the whole fuel subsidy removal impasse that is now threatening the relative successes of Nigeria's economy in recent times.
The latest is coming from Nigeria's former Ministers of...
Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, who said former President Olusegun Obasanjo, due to wise counsel, resisted pressure from Dr. Okonjo-Iweala (then Finance Minister) between 2006 and 2007 to implement full deregulation without adequate infrastructures in place.
Fani-Kayode made the revelation on Thursday while addressing protesters at Area One, Abuja, during the public march against the complete removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.
He disclosed that Obasanjo resisted Okonjo-Iweala's pressure on the issue, because he was convinced such action would hurt the masses badly if 'adequate palliatives' are not put in place.
Fani-Kayode thus urged those at the rally to continue resisting the deregulation policy, in the way it is currently being implemented, as it would further impoverish them and their families.
This woman again? So no be today she don dey plan this thing... na wa o!
ReplyDeleteThe next #Occupy should be against Okonjo-Iweala. SHE MUST GO!
ReplyDelete#Occupy Nigeria
WAHALA DEY FOR NAIJA O! So Fani Kay is now speaking against Okonjo-Iweala? This should be a lesson to those in power today. What goes around comes around.
ReplyDeleteBut Unfortunately these guys dont learn.
Ngozi is the Prime Minister so Goodluck dont any choice but to take her recommendation. Remember she gave him some conditions before coming down. Dont expect anything good from these people.
ReplyDeleteBabajide.
Fani-Kayode or Okonjo-Iweala, na the same Obj people... the can't deceive me.
ReplyDeleteAll i think we need to do is to humilate this woman by resisting her with "occupy" after resolving the issue at hand to resign ASAP.
ReplyDeletekay
Huuuuuum i think we are gettin somwhere
ReplyDeleteSo, she want to use Nigerian to achieve her desired position in world bank and IMF. She is a failure, Now we should call for her removal from our government, her simple dress is just a way to deceive Nigerians that she is part of US, she is against us US. Please let her go. President Goodluck don't let her turn your good luck to bad lock for you, try to remain Mr Goodlock.
Deletetotally untrue. OBJ increased pump rise to N75 and VAT 100% on the eve of his exit and okonjo was not in government then. It was late yar'adua that reversed the increment. Fani kayode should pls spare us, he forgets so easily when he was in government, untouchable ministers now he has lost out and suddenly found his voice on the other side. we don't want their infos. Nigerians are well informed and we would continue to fight this monster called corruption and hold govt accountable for everything.
ReplyDeleteWhy did he not put the necessary infrastructure in place since he knows there are non...instead he decided to build a refinery outside...Jonathan will be a hero and shame go catch all of una...wait and see
ReplyDeleteWe no go die ooo
ReplyDeleteDuring the OBJ period when she was the Finance Minister, this same woman handed over $12.4b to the London/Paris Club with the guise that she was paying our debt for us which we foolishly didn't know how to pay. Instead of Nigerians crying out blue murder, she was applauded and fetted and awarded as Nigeria's saviour.
ReplyDeleteNow she wants to save us again with subsidy removal. But let us remember, we are not saying that she is the originator of no-subsidy policy, it is a conditionality for any beggar nation that needs an IMF/Word Bank loan. But she is the agent and enforcer of the policy here in Nigeria and she does not even understand or care for its impact.
