Parents really need to exercise some measure of control over the children in institutions of higher learning so as to make them face their studies rather than join deadly gangs.
Authority of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) on Wednesday expelled 14 students of the institution over the role they played in the aborted Students’ Union election which the management described as an “act of gross misconduct.”
The suspended students, whose studentship cuts across all the departments of the five schools in the institution were said to have been “caught in the act” perpetration violence, following the crisis that marred the election.
The development also forced the authority of the institution to cancel the election and consequently proscribed the students’ union movement in the school.
Speaking with journalists in his office, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Sulaiman Adebiyi, said the development became imperative following the disruption of the SUG election in which some students took the law into their hands and destroyed properties worth millions of Naira.
Sporadic gunshots were heard at the premises of the institution as some students were said to be protesting the disqualification of their candidates at the said election.

DeleteThe management of the school should have stand aloof of the composition of the union. The genesis of the issue was the undue interference of the management. Those who are carrying guns may not necessarily be student of that institution. Let the management play a mentoring role and stop interring by having interest and disqualifying one candidate for another to have his way

This is how nigeria has left our youths,watching them decay Piece by piece and that translates into d violence u see on our campuses!

ReplyDeleteMajority of them are those who passed JAMB through the back door. Serious students have no time for politics. Those of them that are seeking offices are mediocre. You better face your studies and plan for your future. SUG in that school should remain banned.

ReplyDeleteIts very sad d miserable state in which our Educational system is in 2day. This Mapoly in question operates a very poor standard of education. Its a place Where Results of exams written are published after 6months(in d end of another semester),there u find low quality lecturers who specialize in forcing stdents 2 buy their "copied" books. There lecturers sleep wit female students in exchange 4 grades. Worst of all, they have no standards for admission yet the tuition fee is high. If u dnt believe me, go and find out urslf! Now tell me hw such place wont be infested wit all manner of students? Mostly rogues,touts,prostitutes and loose cannons! Now wait and see d drama of wat becomes of the expelled students: they will remain students of the same school,cause more commotion and still graduate. How? Corruption and Laxity. Miss P.C
