Jonathan's Delegation Disgraced By Oba Of Benin

The Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba Erediauwa on Saturday shunned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) delegation, among them the President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo, the PDP’s flag bearer in July 14 governorship election, Major General Charles Aihiavbere (rtd), which paid a courtesy visit to him in his palace.

The Oba who normally receives visitors to his palace personally yesterday asked the Iyase of Benin, Chief Sam Igbe to receive the delegation on his behalf while he stayed in his inner chamber.

Sensing that the disgrace might be too fatal for President Jonathan, the Edo State top monarch, however, choose to meet only Mr. President in his inner chamber.

You may wish to know that the Oba of Benin had earlier publicly thrown his weight behind the candidature of incumbent Governor Adams Oshiomhole, who is seeking re-election under the ACN.

  3. That serves him right. What will PDP boast of in terms of achievement in Edo state? Lucky igbinedun robbed the state of their resources, another PDP man that ruled the state for 18months failed the state before the present ACN governor oshiomle came in and renovate the state for the people. I advise the good people of Edo state to defend their votes physically before ACN is rigged out again

  5. The position of a traditional ruler should be apolitical. Shunning the Presidential delegation doesn't sound right from a man who supposed to be the father of all, oblivious of party identifications. Being attached to party in power has drastically reduced our traditional rulers to puppet. It doesn't sound right for the socio-cultural development of our nation. A traditional ruler should be neutral and should among other things work for good governance and transparency from government and private enterprises and not be selective in his supports and blessings.

  7. Though I am not from Edo State, but I once read in the news where the Oba warned the politicians not to involve his palace in their dirty tricks. The warning was to all of them. I think it was in that line he avoided the campaign train. As a mark of respect, he invited in the President into his inner chamber. What else do you people expect his royal majesty to do? As for me, I see his majesty as the only king in this country that protects and still commands the integrity of our traditional institution. An Oba is greater than any president. I am very proud of his majesty. May you live long teach other Obas how to stay neutral. I wish my own Kabiyesi could do so! An elder is an elder any time. I doff my cap.
