Jonathan Battles National Assembly Over N5,000

The move by President Goodluck Jonathan through the CBN governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, to further devalue Nigeria's Naira with the introduction of N5,000 note is set to the hit brick walls as soon as the National Assembly resumes, Olufamous.com gathered.

Strong indications have emerged that the President is bracing for a fight with the lawmakers over the approval he gave the CBN to print the currency without consulting them.

The lawmakers, according to credible sources, are angry that Mr President consented to the controversial decision, which has been roundly condemned by well-meaning Nigerians based on position of people like Aliko Dangote, Femi Otedola, Atedo Peterside, etc.

“You can see the levity with which this government treats the National Assembly members, who were elected to make laws for the good of this nation. What do they take us for?" a top ranking lawmaker said on Thursday.

Urging Nigerian to keep fate with the National Assembly to fight this wicked policy, the ranking legislator said “Nigerians should be rest assured that we will always work for their own interest and whatever we decide will be in the interest of the people.”

Adding that "We will certainly take up these issues once we resume because we have not given any approval for the government to embark on any of them."

However, a reliable source in the seat of power told Olufamous.com that President Jonathan is ready to do the bidding of billionaire businessmen in the country by ensuring that he infiltrates the leadership of the National Assembly to have the N5,000 note printed as planned.
