Who Will Save Nollywood From The Craze For Pornography?

See the absurdity on parade in this nollywood movie trailer below.

Evidences that the Nigerian film industry is taking a dangerous slope towards pornography are emerging at the speed of light with our teenagers and young adults as major victims. No wonder we now record cases of rape (and gang rape) in Nigeria almost every week.

Some Nigerians are good at copying other people’s exploits; the problem Olufamous.com observed is when they do, their focus seems to tilt towards the negative stuffs - knowingly or unknowingly.

‘Graphic’ sex scene movies which used to be the exclusive preserve of Ghanaian artistes is now gaining grounds in Nollywood through the likes of Muna Obiekwe and his 'partners in crime' - Jibola Dabo, Eucaria Anunobi, Oge Okoye, Tonto Dike, Annie Marcauley, to mention just a few. But one actor who stands tall from the pack is Muna. The light skinned Enugu boy is known for his dexterity in playing such illicit scenes so much that he’s fast becoming a ‘hot cake’ for any producer/director who wants to join the band wagon.

Since stepping into the industry Muna has featured in some great movies, but his involvement in ‘graphic’ sex scene movies in recent times is becoming a cause for concern and unless something is done urgently by our Video Censors Board to tightened its regulatory grip, Nollywood will be heading “south” in no distant time. In fact, some critics believe we are already a major player in the farce.

The major problem is that these “adults” movies are sold on every street corner in Nigeria at N200 (Part 1 & 2), with their CD jackets displaying seductive pictures. I really don’t mind anyone acting or producing such movies, since there are people who enjoy watching same. But something MUST be done to regulate their distribution and display in public places for the sake of our youths; otherwise Nigeria should be ready to join the league of South Africa as one of the countries with the highest cases of HIV/AIDS in the nearest future.

Today cases of rape and unwanted pregnancy are making headlines in Nigeria more than any time in our history. Nothing happens by accident; there is a reason for this.  We either do what MUST be done or fold our hands and watch things fall apart, and wait for posterity to judge us. The major work however belongs to the regulatory bodies... Some of the movies in this category are: Men in Love, Dirty Secret, Cruz, BlackBerry Babes, etc, etc.

  3. The problem is that we don't even know which one they want to do... if you want to act a decent movie do so all the way and if you want to act a porn movie do so, and stop confusing Nigerians.

If fact government should supervise them well, well... Nollywood stinks.

  9. entertainment doesn't mean trashy,is this same thing that has got Americans where they are today - high rates of rape and immorality. lets face it nollywood should get a grip on themselves. trash sinks, it doesn't sell. i might have my own trash but at least i don't come selling it. government should take action and clean up the trash in nollywood.and to the actors get a life!

  11. dis ain't funny. Its crap. Its bullshit. Our society is fast changing into a state dat cannot be controlled. For God sake, this is Nigeria, and not some sort Ghanian state; y should we copy from what we know is not right? I wept in a state of shock while watching this devilish video. Pls the neccessary body has to stem dis ugly tide as soon as possible cos if it is allowed to escalate, Nigeria cannot handle the situation no more. I hate nollywood for this prodution. Am not happy at all. Am a guy who has, tru all his conscious life, disliked Nigerian home video, but just recently i chose to start watching them cos some entail and portray African Pride, and for its moral level compared to Ghanian dirty movies. But bcos of this, I regrettably state that i will have nothing to do with Nigerian home video. Thank God that i have not and will not even think of purchasing any Nigerian home video with my God-given money. God forbid..!
