Fulani Man Butchers Pastor, Sets Him Ablaze Over Cow

But for divine intervention, Pastor Pekun Olusola, a 60-year-old poultry farmer, would have been sent to his early grave by his employee, Ahmad Aliyu, who lured him into the bush and inflicted serious matchete wounds on him before setting him ablaze.
It was gathered that Pastor Olusola, a poultry farmer, had paid an unscheduled visit to his farm in Aba Alata community of Oyo State on March 13, following a report that Aliyu, a Fulani he employed to take care of his cattle, had sold some of them without his knowledge.

It was learnt that trouble started when Pastor Olusola got to the farm and started counting his cows in order to establish the veracity of the allegation against Aliyu.

The 36-year-old Fulani herdsman, however, became uncomfortable the moment his boss began to count the cows. Aliyu was said to have repeatedly interrupted his boss during the counting exercise, claiming that he had set some of the cows apart from the rest because they were showing signs of ill-health.

He lied to Pastor Olusola that some of the cows were kept in a nearby bush and that he should follow him there to see them. Oblivious of Aliyu’s intention, Olusola agreed to follow him to the bush on a motorbike.

Midway into the trip, however, Aliyu, who was at the back, suddenly drew a cutlass and drove its sharp edge into Olusola’s head. Before he could raise the alarm, Aliyu had seriously dealt with his boss. He then fell in a pool of his own blood.

Not yet satisfied, Aliyu then fetched some petrol from the tank of the Pastor’s motorcycle on which they rode, poured it on his him and set him ablaze, after which he returned to the farm.

Luckily for Pastor Olusola, he was discovered by some members of a vigilance group who quickly put out the fire and invited men of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

According to a source: “It would have been very difficult to know about the incident because Aliyu quickly left the scene after carrying out the dastardly act. He went back to the farm, changed into another dress and was attending to the cows.”

Those who rescued the pastor were said to have visited his farm to apprehend Aliyu but he resisted them. On sighting them in company with plain-clothed policemen, he was said to have issued a command to the the cows and they all dispersed into the bush.

In the ensuing confusion, Aliyu escaped into a nearby bush. Luck, however, ran out on him as he was later fished out by the policemen.

Speaking on the wicked act of his employee, Pastor Olusola said although he is a pacifist, he could not ask the Police not to take action on the matter because he would want Aliyu to be punished in order to serve as a deterrent to others.

Recounting his ordeal in the hands of Aliyu the poastor said: “I called on some passers-by for help but they ignored me. Even a member of a vigilance group that was passing by told me he could not help because he felt that I could not survive the attack. He told me that my skull had been ripped open. I told him that I would not die because God was with me and I asked him to call the police.

“That was how he called policemen from the SARS. On arrival, the policemen were shocked that I was still alive because of the condition they met me. They took me to Oyo General Hospital where I was treated for some days before I was transferred to the University College Hospital, Ibadan.”

The police PRO in Oyo State said Aliyu is under investigation and will appear in court soon.
