Crisis looms in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, over a possible joint ticket between Vice-President Namadi Sambo and Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi in the 2015 presidential election.
Presently, the National Working Committee, NWC, of the party is sharply divided between the supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan and pro-Sambo members. Leading the pack for the pro-Sambo camp is the National Organising Secretary of the party, Abubakar Mustapha, a special nominee of the vice-president.
It is also believed that the National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; the Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Sam Jaja and the National Treasurer, Bala Kaoje, had sympathy for the group. Mustapha is a loyalist of Sambo while Jaja is an ally of Amaechi.

On the side of President Jonathan are the National Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur; the National Woman Leader, Kema Chikwe; the National Youth Leader, Garba Chiza and a few others.
The pro-Sambo group also reportedly has the tacit support of some members of the National Assembly.
In what appeared like a decoy a fortnight ago, some members of this group reportedly met in Johannesburg, South Africa, to fine-tune their plans to effect changes in government under the cover of attending the election of Hon. Bethel Amadi as the Speaker of the African Parliament.
National Mirror gathered that the meeting, held at a five-star hotel in Johannesburg, was attended by notable supporters of Sambo, including three members of the PDP’s NWC, aides of the vice-president, members of the National Assembly and some state governors, including Amaechi.
The Johannesburg meeting, however, leaked to the Presidency two days earlier, a development that made the Presidency to direct the South African High Commission to furnish it with names of the attendees.
President Jonathan also immediately mandated Bayelsa State Governor Henry Dickson to gatecrash into the meeting.
National Mirror also learnt that with the presence of the Bayelsa State governor at the meeting, very little was discussed, but members of the group used the opportunity to create some bond amongst themselves and promised to meet at a later date.
The meeting in South Africa has generated a serious division within the rank of the party and distrust between President Jonathan and Sambo, whose desire to clinch the top office is no longer hidden.

Wahal dey o, dis must be d handwork of Northern governors. Love.
ReplyDeleteThey better dump him before it's too late bcos Nigerians have already dumped him. But Sambo and Amaechi are a no go area... Nigerians will just try other parties in 2015.
ReplyDeletePDP cant win the next presidential election, they shouldn't even think of it...even pastor TB Joshua can testify to this...
ReplyDelete4get pdp comes 2015.
DeleteLet PDP bring angel in 2015,he will be curupted so let's talk of what other parties have on board 4 us and not PDP.

ReplyDeletePolitics is always a game of betrayal. Mr presidnt should read d story of king saul n david.
ReplyDeleteI think this is becoming interesting, even though the so called Sambo or what he calls himsef is going no wea,let him take time to watch becomes of almighty Atiku, that fought OBJ. By the way,is jonathan thinking of coming back again? Let him go and contest LG chairman of his council may b he can learn A>Z of governance. Never again!
ReplyDeletePDP has failed the nation and the people. Sambo/Amaechi ticket will not be a solution to the nation's problems. Nigerians have learnt their lessons that PDP is a capitalist party and not meant to solve the problems of Nigerians who mistakenly voted them in power. Nigerians should look out for another party in 2015 for presidential election
ReplyDeleteNigeria is going to divide come 2015 you will see.
ReplyDeleteThis is complete nonsense. Fellow nigerians please i beg u. Lets support our president in his remaining three years to turn around this country even if it is by constructive criticism. However he came to power it is God that allowed it. His success means more to me. The situation in our land is beyond religious differences or ethnicity. none of you will be able to handle the road that our leaders are taking us thru once the destination is reached. Even the internet that u use to ignorantly make ur hopeless views about each oda will disappear. Browse the meaning of 'refugee' or 'war' or 'genocide' or 'anarchy'. Pls support government now! Whoever is it dat decides to contest in 2015, if u like sef elect ur own parents. Then if they win, pls support them again.
ReplyDeleteI beg all of u take it easy and listen. If PDP choose Jonathan,Sanbo or anybody in 2015, i will surely vote 4 him becs PDP is d only party dt can save Nigerians 4rm these everyday crisis, poverty, power failure and insecurity
ReplyDeleteThe same way they are "saving" us right now abi?
DeleteIn naija anything is possible!
ReplyDeleteWatever we think! It is just too early to start strugglin over 2015 presidency especially by serving officers or politicians, this is distractive.kess
